Chapter Nineteen
âAmber, hand me the sunblock, please,â I said with my hand held out.
âI must have left it in the locker when we came in. I donât see it. Do you really need it?â She asked as if she didnât even know me!
âYes, I need it,â I snapped. âI have red hair and Iâm fair skinned, if I donât use sunblock I will be a redheaded lobster. Iâm running back to the locker then we can get on the lazy river.â
When I located the locker I grabbed the lotion pushing the locker shut and was surprised by Emily Parker standing watching me with a lifeguard swimsuit on. I couldnât imagine her saving anyone.
âWell, well, well, if it isnât Daisy Day. Where is your boyfriend Mica? Did he bring you today? I heard he has been absent from the football practices this summer? Is he being lazy? Football captains arenât supposed to have the quality of laziness are they?â She hadnât changed. She was still the turd tornado.
Mica told everyone he was visiting his grandmother, which wasnât a lie and he would be missing practice this summer. Ten dollars this turd tornado knew this but was trying to get me angry and say more.
âEmily,â I smiled. âIt is nice you found employment but shouldnât that whistle be in your mouth. Isnât that whistle half your job? You are kind of failing at it right now or being lazy? Which one is it?â
She glared at me and in true drama queen fashion, she flipped her blonde hair around and left, leaving me alone to cloak in sunblock. One turd tornado taken care of for the summer. Now if I could only do something about Sammie Cline and her making me fire people.
Amber and I grabbed our inner tubes and jumped into the lazy river. I told her about Emily Parker and I really wished I could tell her about Mica Maloneâs secret. My real life prince. I suppose everyone would eventually find out he would be a future king and had been training this summer just like his Queen Grandmother Eloise has asked him to do. For now though, it was a huge secret and I couldnât, well I didnât want to share it with Amber. She would never keep it a secret and Mica would never get to come back if his cover was blown.
I was lost in my thoughts when out of nowhere Amber and I were squirted with a steady stream of water, which made us jump. There standing on the side of the lazy river was Landon, Micaâs best friend. Landon was a tall handsome boy who now was jumping in the water to chase Amber.
I hadnât talked to Landon since the night of the fish fry, when Mica had decided to leave for his Queen Grandmotherâs home in Sweden. Clearly, Landon and Amber had kept in communication. So I wasnât the only one keeping secrets.
âWhat is going on?â I asked once we started floating again with Landon as an extra passenger.
